Joanna Martin 

 Hey everyone! My name is Joanna Martin and I am a Kickboxing Trainer here at our Clear Lake Athletics and Wellness Center! The first time I walked into a kickboxing class, I was not only late, but also nervously embarrassed that I didn’t have the skill set that I saw the rest of the class working with. I was lucky enough to have an amazing coach who worked with me step by step to understand the combos, perfect my form, and learn to LOVE kickboxing. I was hooked! 
I offer kickboxing classes in the early morning as well as later afternoon hours in order to accommodate as many work/life schedules as possible. I will be right by your side helping you learn and cheering you on each and every class. My goal is to show you that you are capable of hard work and can exceed your own expectations! When was the last time you did something for the first time? You CAN do this; sign up, and I’ll see you soon! 

Joanna Teaches Kickboxing on Monday/Friday at 5:15am & Wednesdays at 5:30pm and 

Weights and Cardio on Mondays at 5:30p





Shelley Fitzsimmons

I grew up in Humboldt, Iowa, obtained a BS in Exercise Science from ISU, and worked at Mercy Hospital, MC, for 8 years, in Cardiac Rehab. As the Exercise Specialist, I was responsible for prescribing, teaching, and monitoring exercise programs for all in/outpatient cardiac patients. I left my position at the hospital to become a full time, stay-at-home mom for the next 20+ years, to 4 sons: Michael, Matthew, John, and Andrew.

I began teaching group exercise classes 5 years ago at a fitness facility. During the COVID lockdown in 2020, from March - November, I developed and implemented an online exercise class program of 229 different workouts:  FitnessFriends. Because of my love of fitness/wellness/health, I wanted to provide a way for others to continue exercising and staying healthy, even when they were unable to leave their homes.

My husband, Jim and I have always spent our free time with our boys including supporting their schools, activities, and teams! Besides working out, I like spending time outside, hiking, kayaking, walking, and watching our sons play baseball!

Shelley teaches Step & Whittle on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30am

Body Works on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30am 

Stretch and Restore at 8:30 on Friday


Megan Bedford

Megan has been teaching fitness classes since 2011. She has mainly taught boot camp-style classes but has also taught spin, just weights, and classes for families with young children like You and Me Yoga. Megan ran college track and field at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Her strength and conditioning coach taught her a lot about fitness and different movements. She coached at NIACC where she helped her athletes not only on the track but in the weight room as well. Currently, she is coaching volleyball at the high school and helping with the track and field program. Megan lives with her family in Clear Lake.

Debbie Mitchell

My name is Debbie Mitchell.   I grew up in Clear Lake, moved to Des Moines and then moved back here with my husband in 2005.   I have always enjoyed exercising and attending a wide variety of fitness classes.  I like to run, kayak, bicycle, travel and of pickleball at the Wellness Center!  You will also see me working here at the front desk a couple days a week.  
I am a certified Qi Gong instructor but my real love is Pilates and the "Pilates philosophy" of exercising.  I have taught both classes independently but have found it is a nice mix for all participants if I do a blend of the two.
